Following is a brief history of where we have been and where we are going.
In the early 1980’s the Rimbey Kinsmen started a demolition derby and worked to create a large following of both spectators and participants. The event became very popular and in 2000 it had to be relocated. As being recognized as one of the best demolition derby’s in Alberta the pressure was on to develop a larger and better facility.
A group of enthusiasts was formed and came forward with a plan to not only build a demolition derby but build a full Motorsports Park with a 1/4 Mile Drag Strip, Two Race Ovals, Demolition Derby, Motocross Track, Mud Bog and more They worked with the Rimbey Kinsmen and the Town of Rimbey to start the development of the Rimbey Kinsmen Motorsports Park. With the communities full support the committee began work and the vision became a reality. With the help of many volunteers, corporate and private donations the project took off. The community has contributed considerable time, equipment, material and expertise to complete what has been done to date. This includes site design, base construction of the Lonkar Dirt Oval, 50,000 cubic meters of base work on the 1/4 Mile Drag Strip and more development planed for the spring.
With over $400,000 of work completed as of this year The Rimbey Kinsmen Motor Sports Park Committee has been busy fundraising and planning events. We currently have five Platinum Sponsors (Over $50,000.) and a number of Gold, Silver, and Bronze supporters. A multi year sign promotion for the park has also raised considerable support and cash to assist in the construction costs. To date we have had a successful 100 ft side-by-side shootout, snow drags, several Demolition Derby’s and are in the planning stages for motocross and mud bog races this summer. We are also on the NPP Late Model 2005 Schedule for our first dirt oval race in July if the Oval is completed.
This is an exciting project as we bring to Alberta 80 acres of pure horsepower. We are committed to building a Premium Motor Sports Park that will be second to none and enjoyed by all for years to come.
